Directing Change Mental Health Awareness is a Micro-Grant given to public schools to bring awareness to mental health using film. Students learn film making techniques to create a 60second long film.
We explore mental health and how it impacts us as individuals, community and society.
We explore different styles and focus of film. Students begin to draft the story they want to tell.
Students take their story and create their storyboards using the techniques learned in composition
Students start exploring ideas about how sound can define the tone to their film. Choosing narration, track and effects.
Students start putting all the pieces of their films together and consider what editing techniques enhance the message they are trying to convey.
Students have a final day to edit and complete their film. This is when the finishing touches such as title/end screens and subtitles come in.
Students watch each others films together and we explore the messages of their films.
Classes are funded by Directing Change. A Program that educates the youth about critical health topics through film and promotes social justice by changing conversations in schools and communities.
Film Handbooks include film activities, worksheets and check-ins surrounding mental health.
