Dear SFV… With Love Charisma | Dear SFV… 2025
Film Maker : Charisma Baquiran
An organizer, student, and childcare worker, art has been side-by-side when it comes to these roles. Constantly viewing life through an artistic lens, I want to continue to use art as a tool- when it comes to fighting for resistance and to positively influence those who are around me.
Why Does the Valley love itself? Because the Valley is love itself.
The Valley has shed light on what community is and should be. During my stay here in the 818, I have seen what makes a strong community. Love is what keeps a community on track, love through it’s people, culture, streets and the valley mountains that surrounds us.

This poem is about recognizing the environment that you are living in and how it has affected you, and how complicit you might be in allowing it to continue. Questioning how fair your assessment is while you’re in the thick of it and recognizing that it may take time before you can fairly analyze the situation you are in. The hope is that you can find peace while being truthful to yourself. The contents of this piece are not meant to be extrapolated beyond the abstractions they portray. If anything resonates with you, I’m thankful.
This poem may not be about the valley specifically, but it is about home, and we are indebted to our larger home that connects us together, which is the valley. Big love goes out to Balboa Lake and the Sepulveda Dam. They have been there for us for hang outs, duck watching, and introspection. Bless the orange line for being the legs of the commuters and taking me back home after late night concerts in downtown. Thanks for giving people the perfect spot for bumming smokes from my friend until he eventually gave up and stomped his cig. Damn you for your high ringing sounds and your incessant classical music. And thank you clowns of the world. May clowns reign supreme in the 818.
